MAKE TIME: 5–7 hours
Beginner projects will introduce you to the basics of bag making. You'll learn to sew heavy-duty fabric, punch holes in fabric and leather, set metal rivets, and sew your first zipper!
Confident Beginner projects involve managing more pieces of fabric and leather. They'll teach you to add interior and exterior pockets and install new types of hardware, like snaps.
Intermediate projects involve a more in-depth making process. They'll teach you to work with a wider variety of tools and hardware techniques, like setting extra-strength tubular rivets.
Advanced projects are for experienced stitchers ready to invest a significant amount of time and energy into becoming a bag maker. Complex construction and seriously professionals results.
Waxed canvas tends to begin a bit darker and lighten as it wears in. Also note that some of the lighter colors (like natural + marigold) can be slightly transparent when layered over darker fabrics or prints.
Our tan leather begins light but will darken to a lovely caramel brown color over time due to sun exposure and natural oils from your hands.
We do our best to photograph colors as accurately as possible, but the best way to know exactly what a color looks like in person is to order a sample!

LEARN ABOUT OUR MATERIALS
Waxed canvas is the original water-resistant fabric. It's a densely-woven cotton fabric that
has been saturated with wax, giving it an extra layer of protection. Waxed canvas shows scuffs, marks
and creases that blend into a weathered patina with age.
Our leather is sourced locally at Oregon Leather, as well as from a tannery in
Pennsylvania, and hand-selected for its quality. Our hides are cut into straps with a
hydraulic press to ensure precision and consistency. NOTE: Our tan leather might feel stiff at
first, but it will soften and darken to a lovely caramel brown with use.
Hardware can take a bag from looking homemade to truly professional—and it's not hard to
do! With a few basic tools, you'll be able to set rivets, snaps, magnetic closures and more. All of
our hardware is real metal and strong enough to hold up to years of wear and tear.

United StatesI bought the Naito in the Pendleton patterned waxed canvas but when the Pendleton wool Naito came out, I had to have one!!!! I love this bag. I spent time traveling and did not miss a backpack at all. The quality of the kit makes this a breeze to put together. The instructions and illustrations are perfection! I did by the pattern but sometimes having it all cut and ready to go is so wonderful!!! Also the Pendleton pattern cam together perfectly at the seam!!! Wow! I did put a little color on the border of the phone pocket on the interior so I could quickly locate my phone.
United StatesThis bag is great!! Ellie, your videos are excellent. This is my most recent full maker kit. After I completed the Naito bucket bag, I immediately went on the complete the Fremont Tote kit I've had for awhile. Last year I sewed The Maywood with Pendleton and absolutely love it! I am making my granddaughter The Maywood as well. I feel I am ready to crack open my Slabtown kit and get stitching. I love using the leather and hardware in these bags.
United StatesI have not started this project yet and probably won’t for a bit. I can say this is my fourth kit and have never been disappointed. Quality materials and directions. The videos are a great bonus! I’ve collected most of the tools to do any project (I do wish I was getting the credit/points for those purchases as it has become a significant investment) I’m sure I will continue to be a loyal customer-everyone is so impressed that I made these bags-hard to believe they are not store bought!

United StatesI love this bag - so much room and so many pockets. Even when it isn’t full of all of your essentials, it still looks great! This is a really fun make as well. Don’t let the circle bottom intimidate you - Ellie has a perfect way to sew this together! I will be making more. Oh, did I say that the illustrations and instructions are absolutely perfect!
United StatesThis was my third Klum House kit, and I loved it. I sewed along with the video, and it truly could not be easier. The video was extremely important for me as my first two sews were with Ellie at the last two Sew Expos; one in person and one virtual. It is also how I learn - visually. I consider myself still a beginner, and I had no problems. I did my initial order though without the suggested tools. Well, I ended up needing to stop mid-sew, ordered the tools and was able to finish up the next weekend. Order the tools folks! And, I absolutely love this bag. Truly love it. It will be my everyday bag for a long time. Thank you for the wonderful pattern and kit.
