We have some very exciting news to share. After nearly four years in our beloved North Williams Street workshop, Klum House is moving!
WHERE ARE WE MOVING?
We aren’t going far—just a couple miles south to a beautiful revamped warehouse space on North Tillamook Street. In recent years, Tillamook Station, as the space is called, has housed numerous art shows, workshops, and events—a true hub in Portland’s creative community. In other words, the vibes are very good, y’all. We are SO excited.
Here's a peek at the new space! The mural is amazing.
WHY ARE WE MOVING?
Klum House has changed so much since we first moved into our current space in 2017. Back then we had a calendar full of in-person workshops, ONE bag pattern (The Oberlin Tote) and were just beginning to sell kits online. Our workshop was primarily a teaching studio—one big table with a bunch of sewing machines. Fast forward a few years and our space looks very different, as does our business.
Our North Williams St workshop—from teaching studio to shipping warehouse!
When in-person workshops stopped due to Covid, all of Klum House went online. Our teaching studio transformed into a shipping warehouse. Today, we sell not just kits and patterns, but also tools, supplies, fabric by the yard, etc. It’s a lot of stuff. Which requires a lot of space. And we are bursting at the seams. Our new workshop will be over three times the square footage of our current one, with room for all our shipping and production (and then some). It’s going to be amazing.
WHEN ARE WE MOVING?
January 1st. So uh...12 days. (Eek!) Klum House will be closed for the holidays from December 24th - January 2nd. Shipping will resume on January 3rd. It’s going to be a little nutty, but we’ll make it work!
Okay, but WILL THERE BE WORKSHOPS?!
The million dollar question! And the answer is yes. But not right away. It’s going to take us some time to settle in. And when in-person learning does return, it’ll look a little different than it used to. Rather than a calendar full of 8-12 workshops a month like we used to have, we’re thinking more along the lines of a few multi-day retreats per year. The kind of thing you might plan a trip around! (Portland is such a fun place to visit.) And maybe the occasional pop-up shop? Maker markets?! Artist talks?! So many possibilities! There's a lot that we're still figuring out. But we do know that we are committed to working sustainably, within our team’s capacity, and continuing to take the evolving state of Covid into consideration. If you're interested in in-person learning at Klum House, make sure to join our email list to stay in the loop!
We can't wait to make with you all in person again!
