We’re excited to share that, as of today (Sept 1, 2022), more of our patterns and kits have been updated to be inclusive of a wider range of body sizes! Bags, like garments, are not one-size-fits-all. No one should have to wear a bag with uncomfortable straps, or forego a fun project because the finished product isn’t functional on their body. In addition to the Naito Bucket Bag, which launched with two strap length options last year, we’ve now added the Fremont Tote, Maywood Totepack, and Slabtown Backpack to the list of bags that are now inclusive of plus-size makers. Below is a breakdown of exactly what has been updated on each bag, as well as how past customers can access these updates.
Here’s What’s Changed…
Fremont Tote
- KITS: The leather crossbody strap included in all of our Fremont Tote maker kits and leather + hardware kits is now 55” long, compared to the original 45”.
- INSTRUCTIONS: The updated Fremont instructions (both PDF and paper) teach you how to find the best crossbody strap fit for your body, cutting down the 55”-long strap to your ideal length, if necessary.
- PATTERN: The updated Fremont pattern (both PDF and paper) has been updated to include a 55”-long leather crossbody strap template, so folks making straps from scratch will also start with the longer length.

Maywood Totepack
- KITS: The backpack strap (which is one piece of leather, but actually forms both “straps”) included in all of our Maywood Totepack maker kits and leather + hardware kits is now 73” long with 7 adjustment holes, compared to the original 64”-length backpack strap with 4 adjustment holes.
- INSTRUCTIONS: The updated Maywood instructions (both PDF and paper) teach you how to find the best backpack strap-length for your body, cutting down the straps to your ideal length, if necessary.
- PATTERN: The updated Maywood pattern (both PDF and paper) has been updated to include a 73”-long leather backpack strap template with 7 adjustment holes on each end, so folks making straps from scratch will also start with the longer length.

Slabtown Backpack
- KITS: The two adjustment straps (which form the bottom portion of the main “backpack straps”) included in all of our Slabtown Backpack maker kits and leather + hardware kits are now 17” long with 9 adjustment holes, compared to the original 12.5” -length backpack strap with 6 adjustment holes.
- INSTRUCTIONS: The updated Slabtown instructions (both PDF and paper) teach you how to find the best adjustment strap-length for your body, cutting down the straps to your ideal length, if necessary.
- PATTERN: The updated Slabtown pattern (both PDF and paper) has been updated to include a 17”-long leather adjustment strap template with 9 adjustment holes, so folks making straps from scratch will also start with the longer length.

Naito Bucket Bag
- No updates have been made to the Naito. Just a reminder that this bag has had two different strap length options since it launched in 2021. The Naito differs from the above bags in that the kits have an option for a standard or extended strap, which you get to choose at purchase, whereas the Fremont, Maywood, and Slabtown kits now include a longer strap for everyone, which can then be shortened, if necessary.
