How to Make Leather Straps - Klum House

How to Make Leather Straps

Our bag making kits come with fully-prepped leather straps, but you can totally make your own from raw leather strips with just a few strap-making tools! In this session, you’ll learn how to strap, cut, hole-punch, and round-end punch your own leather straps for all kinds of bag making projects.

This is a recording of a live talk that took place on Zoom on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Klum House kits come with fully-prepped leather pieces, so all you have to do is attach them to your bag, but you can totally take strap production into your own hands. In this hour-long talk, Ellie will teach you how to make your own leather straps—from a full hide or from raw leather strips—using a few simple tools. You'll also learn about leather weight and what to keep in mind when sourcing leather for your different bag making projects.

Pay if Forward

This event was free of charge, but we encourage non-Black folks who are able to “pay it forward” with a donation to G.L.I.T.S., a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community on a global scale. They are currently fundraising to invest in Black Trans women's higher education.

About Lunchtime Live

Lunchtime Live is a series of weekly conversations with Klum House founder Ellie Lum to discuss our favorite subject (bag making!) and answer questions from our maker community. These sessions are free of charge and open to everyone. The idea for this series sprouted out of our desire to create new forms of learning and togetherness during this time of crisis and uncertainty. We envision this series as a container for sharing skills and ideas, gathering confidence and inspiration, and celebrating our shared love of making. View all past and upcoming live events here.
