Join Klum House founder Ellie Lum for an in-depth exploration of materials, leather work, and bag making. You'll complete three bags: the Oberlin Tote, the Maywood Totepack, and the Naito Bucket Bag, for which you'll learn to make your own leather straps! The course includes pre-recorded videos, live Zoom sessions, an online community, and all the supplies needed to make each bag. (Option to add tools below.)

A Note on Supplies:

SCHEDULE + CURRICULUM

The course will run for 6 weeks and will be broken up into three modules. Each module will include pre-recorded instructional videos. This course also includes 4 live Zooms with Ellie—a welcome gathering to get things started, followed by a live session at the end of each module. Bring your questions, your projects to show + tell, watch live demos, soak in expert advice, and enjoy great company. (All Zooms take place at 5pm PST / 8pm EST and will be recorded if you can't make it live.)

Klum House founder + pattern designer Ellie Lum has been designing and making bags professionally for over twenty years—and teaching bag making for almost as long. She’s taught thousands of students over the years and is passionate about empowering folks through hands-on skill building. Ellie’s students appreciate her laidback teaching style and crystal clear instruction. She believes in bandaids and curse words, plentiful snacks and dog cuddle breaks. Most of all, she believes in you!

The Oberlin Tote

We will begin with a welcome Zoom and then jump right into our first project: the Oberlin Tote. Includes 13 video lessons to watch on your own time, as well as a live Zoom session with Ellie.

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:

  • · Construct convertible leather straps
  • · Set tubular rivets
  • · Sturdy leather straps
  • · Sew a zipper with cleanly tucked-in ends
  • · Construct boxed corners
  • · Set a magnetic snap rivet
  • · Sew a lining into a bag with zipper closure

The Naito Bucket Bag 

Our final project will be the Naito, a pocket-filled bucket bag with a round base and a leather strap that converts from tote to sling. For the Naito, you'll learn how to hole-punch and round end-punch your own leather pieces, creating a strap that is custom fit to your body. Includes 10 video lessons to watch at your own pace, as well as a live Zoom session with Ellie.
