"This bag was surprisingly simple and the waxed canvas fabric was a DREAM to sew with. 🥰 I could see this being great for beginners as well as advanced sewists like myself."

😍 Maker Stories
"The bag is absolutely amazing, and I felt like a champion finishing it in 2 short days! My one piece of advice about making this bag: Buy the Leather + Hardware Kit. Seriously this was such a time saver because I didn’t have to source each piece of hardware, and the leather came pre-cut with rivet holes punched!"
"This was so much fun to make and turned out beautiful. I can't wait to make another one. I think this is going to be a wonderful new addiction."
"I enjoyed making the Fremont from a kit. The video instructions were very helpful. I was impressed with how the bag turned out, as were my husband and friends. It's now my favorite purse, and I have several dozen, so that's saying a lot. It's a great size for carrying everything I might want."
"I made a group of Fremont bags and gave them away as gifts. Making this pattern multiple times was a great way for a beginner like me to practice sewing and gain skill."

FAQS
Questions about the Fremont Essential Tools? We've got you covered.
In short, no. The Fremont Essential Tools Bundle has all the "essential" hand tools you need to set the hardware on The Fremont. However, there are "studio tools" that should be used in conjunction with the essential tools. For setting hardware you should use a (non-rubber!) mallet on a hard surface, such as a slab of stone, metal anvil, or concrete floor. The drive punches should be used with a mallet on a punching + cutting board.
Suggested Studio Tools:
You can add these complimentary "studio tools" to your essential tools bundle above.

In short, yes! A Tapered Tailor's Awl is an excellent choice for making holes in your fabric for the rivets to go through. Please, note, though, the Chicago Screws need a larger hole in the fabric to go through, due to them having a wider diameter. So, you might find the 3/16" Drive Punch to be a more sufficient tool for that.
Yes! We have a ton of free videos on our blog and Youtube channel. Here are the specific ones that pertain to the tools used in making The Fremont Tote:

I took the Portsmith bag making class in Puyallup in March. These tools were used in the class and worked very well.
Denim needle had no issue going through the thick layers, the small black punch tool has a nice heft and went right through, the Boning tool works well for fold and crease at a good price point. The waxed canvas is amazing! The rivet remover tool is very hefty and smart but I have not needed it yet.
This is a great tool! It is lightweight and easy to use!
This lunch went right they multiple layers with ease! So glad I bought it for making bags!
