Our Materials
Waxed Canvas
A densely-woven cotton fabric that's saturated with wax, giving it protection against the elements. It shows scuffs and creases that blend into a weathered patina. *fabric colors vary in weight from 10-12oz
Leather
Sourced from Oregon and a Pennsylvania tannery, and hand-selected for quality. Our hides are cut into straps with a hydraulic press to ensure precision and consistency.
Hardware
Hardware takes a bag from looking homemade to professional—and it's not hard to do! Using basic tools, you can set rivets & more. All our hardware is real metal and built to last.

"I ❤️ how organized my Naito is! It eliminates the need for a separate knitting bag. Love it so much I'm going to make another!"
@notaprimarycolor
"Attaching the circle base on other bucket bag patterns was always unpleasant, but this one aligned perfectly, and Ellie’s class showed how to guide it through your machine."
😍 Maker Stories
"I loved putting this together - but even more, I LOVE using it! Waxed canvas & canvas lining creates shape without bulk. Such fun hammering 🔨! The 42" strap works great, or get the extended strap at no extra cost.⚡️"
"Proof that you too can be a sleep deprived mom of a 5-month-old and still sew a high quality bespoke bag on a very basic home sewing machine in a single afternoon."
My bag is finished and I'm IN LOVE 😍! Wow wow wow! The online class was invaluable for the trickier parts. Ellie is an amazing instructor and so clear! This thoughtfully designed bag was an absolute joy to sew.
I LOVED making this bag! The instructions are super clear, and the online class is the perfect add-on for visual learners and people looking for extra tips and tricks. Super rewarding, and I can’t wait to carry it everywhere!

FAQS
Questions about the Naito? We've got you covered.
No! The Naito Bucket Bag can be made successfully on a wide range of regular home sewing machines. A walking foot attachment and/or Jean-a-ma-jig can help you power through bulky seams. You do not need an industrial sewing machine to make the Naito.
We recommend using a 100 denim needle (or non-stick needle if using waxed canvas) and all-purpose thread to match the main, accent, and lining fabrics.
The Naito Bucket Bag has tubular rivets, which must be set with a tubular rivet peening tool and a (non-rubber!) mallet on a hard surface, such as a slab of stone, metal anvil, or concrete floor. To set the magnetic snap rivet, you’ll need a magnetic snap setter. Finally, to make holes in fabric you’ll need a 3/32” drive punch, which is used with a mallet on a cutting board.
You can add these tools to your kit individually, or combined in The Naito Essential Tools Bundle for a discounted price!

The making time for intermediate projects is estimated at 5-7 hours. Having said that, each maker has their own pace and process. We recommend adding the online class for extra support and to ensure a seamless (no pun intended 😉) making experience.
The Naito is an intermediate-level project with an estimated make time of 5-7 hours. Intermediate projects involve a more in-depth making process. They'll teach you to work with a wider variety of tools and hardware techniques, like setting extra-strength tubular rivets.
Tubular rivets are much stronger than double-cap rivets. Since the Naito is a sling bag, the strap pulls away from the bag at the attachment point, which makes double-cap rivets unreliable, since they can pop apart when pulled with opposing force.
On the other hand, tubular rivets are made to withstand this force and will stay in place (especially when reinforced with leather on the backside of the fabric). So, in a nutshell, the Naito is designed to stand the test of time!
Please don't substitute double-cap rivets for the tubular ones when making the Naito. Also note: tubular rivets need to be set with a Tubular Rivet Peening Tool and a non-rubber mallet.
Everything was as described. Everything I needed was included and well packaged. I ordered the longer strap and it fits perfectly.
I’m very pleased with my purchase.
